Our Story

My name is Megan Lewandowski, Owner and CEO of The Scenic Space, a scenic fabrication shop based in Buffalo, New York. You’re probably thinking, Buffalo? Not exactly known for scenic and themed fabrication… and while you’d be correct, we’ve been creating work for clients all over the country while also building a creative home for artists right here in the city, producing pieces for some of the largest names in the industry.
This is truly a business I wish existed when I was growing up here. I’ve always loved building things, whether it was a backyard “fort” at my parents’ house, a haunted maze in their basement, or an extravagant castle for my toys. Creating has been part of who I am for as long as I can remember.
After graduating college with a degree in sculpture, I took a detour that gave me some time to figure things out: Disney. I was accepted into the Disney College Program, which was great, I made sure Mickey’s hands stayed free of Sharpie stains, but it wasn’t exactly the kind of magic I wanted to be making. Surrounded by scenery, sculptures, themed walls, and immersive environments, I realized that was what I wanted to do, to build, creating these backdrops and memorable experiences for thousands of people.
That realization led me to scenic shops in Florida, where I spent about five years learning the industry. During that time, the idea of starting my own shop kept coming back to me. When the pandemic hit and I was furloughed from my job at SeaWorld, I decided: now’s the time. I moved back to Buffalo, where I had the support and encouragement of my family—and started The Scenic Space.
Building this kind of business in Buffalo has come with challenges, but we’ve been in business for just over three years now (yay!), and while every year has had its hurdles, I’m ready to continue shaping my company with intention, challenge myself thoughtfully, and focus on what brings me the most joy: encouraging others and building really cool things with really cool people.

We are committed to creating a diverse, inclusive, and welcoming workplace where everyone feels valued, respected, and safe.
